In the year 2000, exactly 1.000 years after Leif Eiriksson is thought to have become the first European to set foot in North America, Islendingur, an Icelandic-built replica of a Viking longship, sailed on an epic voyage of over 4.400 nautical miles from Iceland to the eastern seaboard of Canada and the United States.
